In making this commitment, we pledged to work towards the Commitment鈥檚 four key areas of:
- Visibility - to ensure that the Institute鈥檚 technical specialists are visible, valued and that their contributions to the Institute is visible within the Institute and also externally.
- Recognition - to support our technical specialists to gain recognition through professional registration and award schemes.
- Career development - to establish and highlight clear career pathways for career advancement and skills development.
- Sustainability - to allow the Institute to utilise and benefit from the full range of skills and expertise held by our technical community and to develop plans to ensure the future sustainability of these capabilities.

Since becoming a signatory of the Technician Commitment we have been working to integrate, or further solidify, the four pillars of the Technician Commitment into our work culture; visibility, recognition, career development, and sustainability.

About the Technician Commitment
The Technician Commitment is a university and research institution initiative, led by a steering group of sector bodies, with support from the Science Council and the Gatsby Charitable Foundation鈥檚 Technicians Make It Happen campaign. The Commitment aims to ensure visibility, recognition, career development and sustainability for technicians, technologists and skills specialists working in higher education and research, across all disciplines.
